NME Visits Treasure Island Elementary
for a Cultural Exchange During
Haitian Cultural Heritage Month

Students and teachers from North Miami Elementary School went to Treasure Island Elementary School as part of a cultural exchange program.  The project was the brainchild of NME's principal, Mr. Andy J. Pierre-Louis, and TIE's principal, Mr. Luther T. Gray.  They envisioned a program in which students of diverse cultures could meet and share facts, customs and traditions with each other.   On May 13th, 2004 that vision became a reality.  A group of NME students went as ambassadors and represented some of Haiti's customs and traditions through poems, storytelling, dance, and a game of Jeopardy with a Haitian twist.   The students from TIE were wonderful hosts and treated us to a traditional Hispanic lunch.  We are anxiously waiting for the TIE students to visit NME in October during Hispanic Heritage Month.  Below you will find some pictures of the activities of the day.
