Ms. Alberto |
| Angeline
Alberto was born in Los Angeles, California on January 26th, 19--.
At the age of two her family moved to South Florida and has called
it home ever since. As far as she can remember, the only thing she
ever wanted to ‘be’ was a teacher, and this dream came true as a
result of attending Nova Southeastern University in which she
graduated on December 1999. Since then, she worked as a substitute,
3100, part-time teacher, and finally as a permanent teacher at our
very own North Miami Elementary. In total, she has worked for six
years, and four of those years here with you. Currently, Angeline
is working as one of the Reading and Language Arts teachers in fifth
grade, and only needs three credits to obtain her master’s degree in
Reading from Nova Southeastern University. This summer, Angeline was asked to be one of three presenters at the opening of the school year meeting at Nova Southeastern University. At the meeting she presented Loraine Monroe’s Blackboard Configuration (BBC); a strategy that she had incorporated in her classroom for years and never knew that there was an actual institute that taught the strategy. As a result, the administration has asked that the BBC be implemented school wide. When Angeline first began working at North Miami Elementary, she met awesome teachers. These teachers took time to mentor those who were first starting, and she never forgot that. In turn, she has always been there for those who need help, from planning, writing professional development plans (PDP), to just being a friend. From that wonderful experience, she attended a Clinical Supervision course and currently has an intern in her class. Now, she is a mentor. Just the other day, an administrator suggested that she should consider taking the PACES Professional Development On-line course in order to be part of the Professional Growth Team (PGT). This will allow her to help even more and not to mention learn from others. Also, to keep her PDP current, she also attends TEC workshops to learn new techniques and strategies that will improve her teaching and in turn foster learning in her classroom. As an educator, Angeline is friendly yet stern. Her students know what is expected from them, and they try their best to perform. For example, the students Edusoft scores for reading have risen above 70 percent. Angeline has also worked for the past three years as a tutor with the YMCA through a grant called Children’s Trust. As a result, she has been trained to use various reading programs, such as Voyager, Riverdeep, and is currently using LeapTrack. She has had wonderful feedback from various teachers concerning their students reading improvements. Not to mention, dramatic learning gains from student test results. It just doesn’t stop in the classroom. Angeline has also been part of many committees along the way. Some examples include the Holocaust committee, Hispanic committee, and United Way. But it doesn’t end at work, either. Having a strong belief in her faith is the most important aspect of her life. Her love of teaching and children, along with dance has overflowed in this area. For over eight years, she has been a Sunday school teacher, as well as, being involved in dance groups in two fellowships, and has been the messianic dance leader for four years at her congregation. |
