Ms. Murphy

      Dianne Murphy is our school counselor. She has been here at North Miami Elementary for the past 8 yrs. Before that she was a counselor as well as a classroom teacher. She taught most of the grades and has experience with children of all ages. She enjoys working with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

         Dianne is from a large family and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She came to Florida for college at Barry University and fell in love with the climate and people. She has a BA in Elem. Ed., a MS in Guidance and Counseling also from Barry, and a Specialist Degree from Nova University.

         She has worked for Dade Schools for 36 yrs. and that explains why she has so many gray hairs. The majority of these years were spent working with underprivileged students, which she finds very rewarding.

         Dianne is happily married to Larry Murphy and has three terrific kids. Heather is a speech therapist, Shannon is an elem. school librarian, and Brian is still in school at the Univ. of Central Florida. She is the proud grandmother of one grandson, Andrew (2yrs. old.) Come by and look at pictures anytime!!!

         She is active in her church as well. She lectors at mass and trains others, she works with their Outreach Program, and has taught many CCD classes. Living a Christian life is very important to her.

          Dianne’s hobbies are reading and GARDENING. She loves landscaping and a visit to her home would definitely find her outside pulling weeds, planting, or trimming. She often takes gardening classes and would one day like to be a “Master Gardener.” She’s willing to share her information too, so ask her any of your gardening questions.

          Dianne’s other passion is travel, but in a particular area. She can boast of her many trips to our great National Parks. She has been in every national park, except Alaska so far. Each summer when school ends, she packs her bags and heads for the mountains, literally. She and her family spend hours observing the beauty of nature. She hikes through wilderness areas and has met most “scary” wildlife “eye to eye.” They’ve enjoyed visiting every state in the US. on their travels.

          This summarizes her life in a nutshell. She loves what she does, likes being of service, loves giving a helping hand, and enjoys working with great people.
